21st Century Libraries

The Building Inspiration: 21st Century Libraries Initiative redefined the Free Library as a central resource in every neighborhood in Philadelphia. INTECH renovated and expanded four neighborhood libraries to ensure that strong, community-specific programming and resources are offered in a state-of-the-art space. Construction occurred simultaneously at the Logan, Lovett, Lillian Marrero, and Tacony libraries. Although the design for each library responds to the site-specific needs of each building and location, there are program commonalities. Each added an elevator, ADA-compliant toilet rooms, and upgrades to mechanical, plumbing, lighting, and electrical systems. A prototype concept design created a living room teen space, computer lab, mentoring space, expanded children’s area, and upgraded staff workroom.
