Logan Library is on the Philadelphia Historic Register, originally constructed in 1917 as part of the Andrew Carnegie $1.5M grant to Philadelphia. Located one block east of North Broad Street at the intersection of Wagner Avenue and Old York Road, the T-shaped building occupies a large triangular site with many mature trees. The building is a classically-inspired brick design with a large stair leading up to the main entry. One of the primary goals of the 21st Century Libraries project is to provide physical accessibility to the neighborhood libraries. Accordingly, an ADA-accessible ramp was constructed at the front of the building and blends seamlessly with the original design.

Inside, the main floor was completely renovated to accommodate the new program prototypes. This includes a “living room,” teen space, computer lab, mentoring space, and an expanded children’s area. All systems were upgraded, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. A 500 SF addition provides a new elevator, ADA-compliant toilet room, and egress stair. The building’s lower level was also renovated and provides staff workspace as well as community gathering space.

“The Free Library Foundation found INTECH to be a great partner, always responsive to our questions and needs as well as those of the community members in each neighborhood. Its staff is highly professional and was a pleasure to work with. We appreciate INTECH’s dedication to high-quality work.”
