Gutmann College House is University of Pennsylvania’s newest addition to its long-standing collection of college houses. At almost 250,000 square feet, the building accommodates 435 student beds and four faculty apartments, as well as supporting residence functions such as a coffee bar, dining area, seminar and study rooms, a living room, and a fitness room. Students at the college house will get to experience a live demonstration kitchen among the many other amenities.

Located in the northwestern quadrant of Penn’s “super block” – a collection of the University’s college houses, green spaces, and other academic buildings – the building was designed to complement the scale of the surrounding context. Situated around a landscaped courtyard, the U-shaped complex has a 13-story tower along Walnut Street, with two low-rise 5-story wings projecting to the south. The main entrance brings residents and visitors through a campus green and terrace adjacent to pedestrian thoroughfare Locust Walk, with an additional entrance along the more public 40th Street. A landscaped private garden is located inside the secure college house perimeter, surrounded by the activity of the living-learning spaces of the residence.
